Description

I've spent hours trying to get a good shot of this animal. Multiple evenings of sitting in front of flowers, waiting for a bumble-bee to come along, making tons of unfocused and moved photo's...
But this is what I have to show for it. It's the best pic of the bunch.

Rather interesting how the bees body continues the curve of the plant. The composition is good, but the plants are oversatured and bright making the bee less of the focus. If you darked the plants and increased the light on the bee then the bee would be the focus.

Nice work, the flowers are a little bit overexposed in some parts though. Cropping the overexposed part would be nice IMO. Great details on the bumble bee, well done!

Very nice, the panoramic look to the shot is so perfect. I like it all. Makes me wonder if I should even upload my bee shot, I don' t think I can top this . Great work.

Interesting crop for a macro. Has something to it.

well it was definately worth the waiting for the shot is what I can say.

amazing shot. wondeful composition.

I dont agree that the plants are oversaturated. I like the movement... I go directly to the left first with the plants color... and I move right seeing the bee.

and I think thats a very good thing.

I would crop just a tad bit off the left of the image, up to where the over exposure at the bottom ends!! Other than that this is a beautiful capture!

WOW!

VERY nice shot!
Very nice colours, Very nice bokeh, VERY nice focus, VERY nice crop!

This shot has everything, but the white lines in the frame are attracting too much attention, maybe use a grey colour like #cccccc for them :)

Very nice shot, did I say that already?

I wasn't even sure the shot was good enough, but a friend of mine urged me to post it... :)

So, thank you all for your votes and comments I'm learning a lot from all the different opinions, views and critiques. Thanks a lot!

Like the format of presentation!
The humble bee is well captured!
A slight overexposure on the left but it is okey.
Maybe not a central position?

Great to see a thoughtfully composed insect macro!
Interesting use of contrast between foreground at left and background at right.
Nice one...

Nice capture. I'd suggest cropping off the entire left side, right up to where the plant bends over (making for less distractions and moving the bee off center).

I agree with Rian about cropping a bit from the left but otherwise I like the composition and the color of the flowers. A very good sharp focus.

Yeah, I've also been taking lots and lots of pictures of bumble bees. I think they are really fun to take pictures of. True you only get one or two good pics out of about 30 or something, but it's still fun. I'm planning on putting one of my up soon. But this is great. I'm amazed of how good the composition is and the flower is really interesting as well. Great stuff!

Anne - wow... I was instantly envious of this shot! I have spent what I felt was alot of time trying to capture pollenating bees, too, but I see now that I didn't give the effort due patience. This shot is delicate and perfect. I also LOVE the shallow depth of field! Not only does it tell a narrative, it is precarious, intricate, balanced and colorful. I can almost hear the silence of holding your breath so as not to disturb this fellow on his rounds. Quite a reward for your efforts! Do you have any information/advice on your camera setup and technique? Lenses, EXIF data, routine, preparation, etc? - jason
